Ok well first of all, to put my opinion out there, I HATE the SAT, I think that it is the most ridiculous thing out there that doesn’t prove anything about anyone. There are plenty of smart people, such as me, who don’t do that well on the sat, while I have a 4.3 core GPA. It just doesn’t make sense for anyone to have their future be determined by a test that you have to take in a little amount of time, and that is a lot more challenging in the reading than in the math, and it’s not just because people are good at math. I don’t see how my future career would make me make choices in a little amount of time like the SAT gives us, while if I do have time, I can get straight A's no problem, so I don’t see why we need a stupid test to "prove" how smart we are, when in fact it just proves that you can take a test well, but in my opinion that is completely bogus.
For example, if I would want to get into Cornell, they only take students who got a 1300 or higher, when I know that I could excel in those classes even though I didn’t get a high score on the SAT because I would have the time to do my work and not squeeze 40 questions plus having to read articles in 30 minutes, its just ridiculous. I know that it could sometimes be beneficial, but in my case it doesn’t help me at all, unless I can get a high score it almost nullifies my GPA and my actual performance in school and real work, just because I didn’t do so well on a stupid test. If I don’t get a high score on the SAT then really good schools won’t even look at me, when in fact I can do good in school but I just can’t take the SAT. Its ridiculous and I think that there should be some other way of judging students, because the SAT in some cases doesn’t prove anything.

I totally concur. The SAT is garbage, ACT is way better. Standardize testing works for people who get higher score with lower grades. People like you with high grades wouldn't benefit with an average score. The good part is if a school is cheating people on their grades the SAT would help, but I don't like the fact that it's necessary. BAN THE SAT!
ReplyDeleteI think the SAT is a ridiculous test too. There is too much pressure to get good grades in high school already. Why put extra pressure on students by making them take a really hard standardized test. It ruins a whole two days out of the weekend. There is also to much forceful spending. Hiring tutors, buying book, and the actual test all costs to much. I could spend that money in a million different ways that would be more productive to society. The SAT should be banned.
ReplyDeleteThe SAT is outright ridiculous because colleges use that to base your knowledge on instead of your actual grades. The format for t doesn't even make sense. They tell you to skip X amount of questions, but not all of them only certain ones. Your score can either be pretty high or pretty low just by a combination of how many questions you did and didn't attempt. It also puts too much pressure on students too add to the pressure we already have with grades.
ReplyDeleteI have to totally agree with you. The SAT reminds me of the FCAT that you need it to move beyond a certain point. I think that it is stupid to base whether a child goes to college on a test. Like you, many people are not good test takers and stress out while taking the SAT. I think that the material covered in the SAT should be enforced more in school instead of requiring that test.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you’re saying, but they don’t base your complete acceptance on this one test. Schools are aware of the fact that everyone isn’t programmed the same, and some people (most in my opinion) aren’t very good at taking standardized tests. But if you really think hard about it, mostly any profession that you go to college to study is a test. When you actually achieve your goal and you landed the position you worked for, it’s going to be filled with tests. And those test, like the SAT, will have time requirements except they disguised them to make you think differently and they’re are then called deadlines.
